HSBC tops environmental, social and governance (ESG) rating in the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index. The rating places HSBC in the top rank out of 638 Hong Kong and China listed companies in the environmental, social and governance performance review undertaken by RepuTex.
HSBC was given an 'AA' rating in recognition of the Bank's strong commitment to sustainability and our efforts to mitigate environment, social and corporate governance related risks in the markets we operate in. Companies are rated on a scale of AAA to D covering 120 indicators across corporate governance, environmental and social impact and workplace practices based on a robust methodology.
The rater also acknowledged that the top ranked companies are actively using ESG performance to differentiate, and that this trend is expected to increase as the socially responsible investment market expands into Asia.
HSBC has been a constituent company for two consecutive years since the inception of the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index. The annual Carbon Disclosure Project also listed HSBC among the top three financial institutions globally for climate change strategy and reporting.
