HSBC supports Hong Kong's first Low-carbon Office Operation Programme

HSBC partners with WWF to support Hong Kong companies to reduce their carbon footprint through the Low-carbon Office Operation Programme (LOOP).

In addition, HSBC is one of the pilot companies joining this programme as part of our continuous efforts to promote a low-carbon economy.

It offers a web based carbon accounting tool that allows office managers to measure carbon emissions from office activities covering electricity use, air travel, recycling and help companies evaluate the carbon performance based not only its greenhouse gas emissions, but also its exiting infra-structural set up, office equipment technologies and management practices.

  • direct emissions generated from fuel consumption in company-owned vehicles
  • indirect energy emissions from the use of office lighting, computers and office equipment
  • other indirect emissions, for example, the fuel use in business travel or staff commuting to work, and emissions generated from paper use

"The commercial sector is the largest energy user in Hong Kong. Through adaptations in their business management practices and adopting more climate friendly operational processes, the businesses in Hong Kong could exert a significant impact and transform Hong Kong into a low-carbon city; and also seize the green opportunities."

Karen Ho
Business Engagement Leader, Climate at WWF-Hong Kong

"Everyone can take action to tackle climate change, many Hong Kong people work in the office, this is a good place to start with low-carbon actions; and businesses are important and effective drivers of change."
